Coach Day comes to Independence football after being the Head Football Coach and building the Riverside football program from day one in 2015. Coach Day lead the Riverside program to back to back playoff appearances in Division 4 in 2018 and Division 5 in 2019. Coach Day was named the 2018 Dulles District Coach of the Year. Coach Day is now entering his 19th year of coaching high school football. Coach Day has spent nine years at Westfield HS, two years at Herndon HS, one year at Flint Hill and Centreville HS, and the last five at Riverside HS. In his 19-year career, Coach Day has won two VHSL Division 6 State Championships in 2003 & 2007, VHSL Division 6 State Runner Up in 2011. Coach Day has also won three Division 6 Region Championships and 8 Concorde District Championships. Coach Day also coaches baseball at Stone Bridge HS.
Coach Day has coached over 30 college football players and six NFL players over his 19-year career.

In his playing career, Coach Day accepted a full scholarship to Marshall University where he played for two years before transferring to NCAA Division II Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC. At Lenoir-Rhyne he played both football and baseball from 1996-1998. Coach Day graduated in 1998 with a degree in Sports Management. Coach Day is also a 1993 graduate from Fairfax High School where he earned 2 Team All-State at Quarterback and in 2015 was inducted into the Fairfax High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Coach Day has lived in Brambleton since 2008 and was married to his wife Courtney in 2011 who is a middle school English teacher in FCPS.
